I once caught a light that was...

"Lights on."
It's the brightest thing when you first lay eyes on it, reflecting the stark green and red of the Christmas lights, cold to the touch, nevertheless, beautiful.
You decide to invest all of your time - you absolutely want it all to yourself! A sense of longing you've never experienced engulfs you - you're drowning and you can't stop it; you allow your body to sink...
The deep sea is full of unknowns, creatures never-before seen, even in your mind's eye. They snake around your being, making you feel so small. It's going to be worth it, you shut your eyes and let yourself go.
The fall is long and turbulent, with the waves growing inconsistently stronger and weaker with depth.
Am I cut out for this? The door to any room for doubt closes shut, the lock clicks. Determination rages to an all time high. Your ongoing, seemingly lifelong search does not deter you.
Suddenly you catch sight of it once more, just as beautiful as it was before, the same shining beam of light pulling at your gaze, now ever brighter and ever more beautiful, come hither, it beckons.
This is how it begins, but take note, for already this is the starting point for comfort and conditioning to take over. You would do anything, yet the spectrum of anything narrows as time passes.
You know it, I know it, we all do.
Yet nobody would admit to it.
That is but the sad, sad truth.
The world is cold and the world is dark, and you would be foolish to believe in the concept of "luck".
Even in the slightest.
So darling,
Stand up, dust yourself off, for it is only the beginning.
Hold on tight.
Any light that shines now, however bright, may someday cease to be.
And all that will remain is a lonesome, cold, dark night.
"Fade to black."
